Thinking about China in the end of May

Dustin’s thinking about coming to visit in Hong Kong from May 13 (give or take). Christy and I are wrapping up school during the month of May, with our housing officially done by the 26th. And Dustin needs to be back to California right around the 26th.

One idea could be for dustin to come into HK, spend a few days here, and then head into mainland China. Digging thru Christy’s National Geographic book on China, it looks like the city/towns of Guilin and Yangshuo could be cool destination points. According to this site, its around 1000km from Shenzhen (just on the other side of the border from Hong Kong), and Guilin, with 13 hour travel time on the train, and tickets between US$20-50.

I’m not sure if it would be better to go for a straight shot from HK to this area, check it out, and then possibly travel out further, or if we want to slowly make our way here, checking out stuff along the way (I’m not sure what might be along the way..)

And then there’s the issue of bicycles, well and the dates. If we live around this time, Christy and I would probably have to leave with all our stuffs, and there would be no need for us to return to HK. Possibly this could work out nicely, but it would definitely mean we were bringing our bikes (I think..).

OK, ok, any thoughts?
