After several attempts at starting the planning for a trip to Central America, yesterday Christy and I sat down and began researching places to go for out trip. Currently tickets are available for ~$330 from LAX to Guatemala City. We’re looking to spend 2-3 weeks down there.
Guatemala seems awesome. In the North is the Tikal Mayan ruins, and to the west is lake Atitlan. Then we started looking into El Salvador, which is where Christy’s father is from. Its a relatively small country, sharing borders with Guatemala, Hondorus, and the Pacific Ocean. Things are relatively cheap in El Salvador, and it sounds like theres lots of amazing terrain to see.
So far in our tiny bit of research, we found out about the Montecristo Cloud Forest, which exists in El Salvador, Hondorus, and Guatemala. The town of La Libertad seems to be an awesome place to take in the Pacific Ocean.
Other things we would like to do is go to a futbol match, scuba dive. I’m also hoping to do some research on microlending and sustainable agriculture, as well as some general photodocumenting to try putting together some kind of piece back in the states.
